Uncle Joe’s Self Defense Tip: Shoot Two Blasts in the Air

nn_11bw_biden_130219.video-260x195 Joe Biden: You don't Need a AR-15 to Defend Yourself... Buy a Shot Gun... nn 11bw biden 130219As part of the White House’s push for an assault-weapons ban following last year’s Newtown, Conn., shooting, vice president Joe Biden told Americans that a a shotgun — the weapon used by accused Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis — is a safer alternative to an AR-15. [1] In February during a Facebook town hall with Parents magazine, Biden recommended the weapon to a mother concerned about protecting her children, recounting how he told his wife to take the family’s shotgun and fire it into the air if she ever felt threatened. “Buy a shotgun, buy a shotgun,” he urged. Biden explained (at least when they are not in D.C.), he and his wife live in an secluded, upscale section of Wilmington, Delaware :

“I said, ‘Jill, if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony … take that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house’ …. You don’t need an AR-15. It’s harder to aim, it’s harder to use and in fact, you don’t need 30 rounds to protect yourself … buy a shotgun, buy a shotgun.”

A month before, in a separate Google Plus Hangout, Biden said that people will feel “a lot safer” with a shotgun because they are more accurate and easier to use. Following yesterday’s shooting, some media outlets initially reported that Alexis was armed with an AR-15. CNN’s Pamela Brown reported earlier today that FBI’s Washington, D.C. office said Alexis did not have an AR-15, however, but used a shotgun.

Policeman: Biden Advice Can Land You in Jail

However, Delaware law would likely make his suggestion illegal—unless the shots were fired in self-defense in a truly life-threatening situation.  A sergeant with the Wilmington, Del., police department explained to U.S. News that city residents are not allowed to fire guns on their property. The sergeant, who preferred not to be identified, said that Wilmington residents are also not allowed to shoot trespassers. “On your property you can’t just shoot someone,” he said. “You have to really feel that your life is being threatened.” Defense attorney John Garey—a former Delaware deputy attorney general—agreed, and added that several criminal charges might result if Jill Biden took her husband’s advice.  “In Delaware you have to be in fear of your life to use deadly force,” Garey said. “There’s nothing based on his scenario alone” indicating a reason to fear imminent death, he noted. Garey said that under Biden’s scenario, Jill Biden could be charged with aggravated menacing, a felony, and reckless endangering in the first degree. “It would be incredibly irresponsible of a gun owner to blindly discharge a firearm into the air,” said Wiltbank. “What goes up, must come down and this specific behavior has been the cause of many negligent homicides over the years.”  Tom Shellenberger, a lawyer who serves as a spokesman for the Delaware State Sportsmen’s Association, told U.S. News that Biden’s security tip was “the worst type of advice.” Delaware is even more restrictive on force in defense of property. The use of deadly force for the protection of property is justifiable only if the defendant believes that:

“The person against whom the deadly force is used is attempting to commit arson, burglary, robbery or felonious theft or property destruction and either:

a. Had employed or threatened deadly force against or in the presence of the defendant; or

b. Under the circumstances existing at the time, the defendant believed the use of force other than deadly force would expose the defendant, or another person in the defendant’s presence, to the reasonable likelihood of serious physical injury. (11 Del. Code 466)

Man Cites Joe Biden After Arrest for Firing Shotgun into Air

Jeffrey C. Barton wants an apology from Vice President Joe Biden.  The Vancouver man faces a misdemeanor charge of illegally discharging a firearm from an incident July 15 in which he says he fired a shotgun in the air to chase away three men who were allegedly breaking into his vehicles.  After pleading not guilty July 17 to the misdemeanor charge, 52-year-old Barton said that he was following advice from the vice president of the United States.  “I did what Joe Biden told me to do. I went outside and fired my shotgun in the air,” he said. [10]

Biden Get a Detroit Women Killed

It was shortly before 1 a.m. Nov. 2 and Renisha McBride was involved in an accident with a parked vehicle in Detroit.  More than two hours later and six blocks away, she was shot in the face by a man who told police he thought someone was breaking into his Dearborn Heights home. The 54-year-old homeowner, according to police, said his 12-gauge shotgun discharged accidentally. The homeowner did what Joe Biden told people to do. [23] This is what a Democrat politician thinks is a ‘pro gun’ message, by the way: shake the Magic Boom Stick in the air and fire the Devil Bees in random directions until the Bad Man flees into the night. Out in the real world, what actually happens when you try that is that you run an unacceptably high risk of having a woman take a load of buckshot to the face. [23]

Biden On Gun Control

In response to one question about the Obama administration’s end game for its gun control agenda, Biden insisted that the legislation he is trying to promote will not lead to any gun bans per se or infringing on the Second Amendment. The Obama administration is not trying to ban guns, he claimed. He explained that he is a gun owner. He has two shotguns with shells in a locked cabinet at home for self defense. “No one is going to take my gun … no one is going to take anyone’s gun,” he declared. [24]  But if by any chance the government really do come for our guns, we are the only one who’s going to loose our security because as vice president, of course, Biden gets around-the-clock Secret protection. As a member of the 1%, he is also wealthy enough to afford private security once he leaves office.

The Gregory Brothers Parody

The Gregory Brothers have carved out an online niche with their “Songify the News” series in which they “songify” (auto-tune) some of the biggest news stories to emerge out of Washington. In the hilarious third edition, Vice President Joe Biden and Glee’s Darren Criss sing about buying a shotgun, Sen. Rand Paul serenades the Senate about the threat drones pose to Americans and Fox News hosts Megyn Kelly and Bill O’Reilly sing a duet about the NSA. The video is already going viral and has more than 100,000 views in less than a day. As a side note, Criss can seriously sing.
