Lauren Southern is a political science major at the University of the Fraser Valley in British Columbia. She’s running for public office as a Libertarian. And she’s also something of an Internet sensation. During a recent ‘Slutwalk’ in Edmonton, The Rebel Media’s Lauren Southern once again highlighted the stunning incompetence of feminists when it comes to defending their viewpoints. The SlutWalks are held in cities around the world to raise awareness and put an end to rape culture, victim-blaming and slut-shaming. The Canadian first went viral back in April, when she posted a video explaining why she’s not a feminist. Now, she’s back in the public eye with a video attacking “rape culture,” in which she reported from an anti-rape SlutWalk in British Columbia. Shot for the conservative Canadian media platform The Rebel, the video shows Southern scurrying down the street to interview scantily clad SlutWalkers and trying to catch them off guard by interrogating them about rape statistics. In the middle of the video, she suddenly transitions from reporter to protester, holding up a sign declaring: “There is no rape culture in the west.” As you will see, Logic and facts are to feminists what holy water and sunlight is to vampires. When confronted with reason and coherence, feminists flee to their “safe spaces,” petrified that coming face to face with the truth about their batshit crazy beliefs will leave them “triggered” for life.
1) Feminist says I don’t need to give you facts, because I don’t have any
Feminist with a sign that reads, “Consent is my best feature,” rails against rape culture in the west. Although rape culture in the west isn’t a thing – there are no statistics to prove it, the woman asserts that male rapists are given lenient sentences. When asked to provide specific examples that illustrate her point, she admits she doesn’t have any. Apparently, repeatedly insisting “of course we live in a rape culture” is enough to prove that we live in a rape culture.
2) Male feminist can’t even explain what his sign means
“In honesty, I didn’t make the sign.” Hmmm, then why are you attending a feminist protest? And who gave you the sign? And are you only carrying it to try and sleep with them?
3) Feminist says rape allegations should be believed without evidence
People should be imprisoned for rape on mere allegation alone. No evidence is necessary. “You can’t put someone in prison if you haven’t proven them guilty of something,” responds Southern. “We have to believe any rape victim,” responds the feminist. You may think this sounds completely moronic, but it’s actually what prominent feminists are pushing, and judging by the leftist media’s treatment of the Mattress Girl story and the UVA rape hoax, many do believe that allegations trump actual evidence.
4) Feminist says being catcalled is the same as being stoned to death
You can’t oppose rape unless you’ve been raped (despite the fact that, statistically, almost all if not all of the participants in the protest have never been raped). Comparing catcalling to rape isn’t trivializing rape because being catcalled is the same as being stoned to death because “one thing leads to another.” The best way to prevent men from catcalling and leering at women is to walk around topless.
When Lauren silences the feminist with logic, her friend leaps to her defense, “This isn’t about catcalling.” Even though that’s exactly what a ‘Slutwalk’ is all about. And there you have it. If feminists are wondering why 82% of Americans don’t consider themselves to be feminists, these videos tell you everything you need to know.
While Southern has been widely praised by conservatives, she’s also been called all sorts of names on social media. There’s even a Change.org petition started by attendees of the SlutWalk to have her removed as a Libertarian candidate for office. “Ms Southern held her microphone in a victim’s face while a woman was sharing her experience of sexual violence and marginalization, drawing attention to herself and away from the speaker,” the petition reads. “She screamed over the women who were speaking, essentially attempting to silence their voices. She marched up behind the speakers that were sharing and held up a sign that said ‘There is no rape culture in the West.’ While we support Ms Southern’s right to express her political views, we take issue with the methods she used that day to get her message across. The petition continues: “She attempted to silence a group of Canadians who gathered together to share their stories, give sexual assault survivors a platform where their voices could be heard, and raise awareness about how the judicial system and the culture of victim-blaming and slut-shaming undermines survivors.” Southern said it’s not surprising that she’s drawn the ire of feminists who believe society has yet to achieve equality for women. “I think systematically men are less privileged for sure,” she said. “Overall, men have been getting the short end of the stick, and I think it’s because of feminism. If you only try to push equality for one gender, you’re going to get a disparity, and that’s what’s happening.” Southern rejects the argument that women have historically been oppressed and disenfranchised by society. A statement on the SlutWalk Vancouver Facebook page reads: “As everyone who attended the rally knows, there was an intrusion by Lauren Southern and Rebel Media. Ms Southern claims not to be a feminist and that rape culture does not exist in the west. To this I say: feel free to bury your head in the sand and pretend that we have solved all our problems here, but the truth is that the majority of sexual assault survivors in Canada have not seen their attacker go to prison. It remains true that victims of violence are still blamed for their own assaults. Many of the people who have not seen justice were at the SlutWalk. Ms Southern is a candidate for the Libertarian Party, which is concerning to say the least. She clearly missed the part in the job description of a politician where they are supposed to represent the people, rather than bully, harass and attempt to silence the people.”
